Boeing 737 Flight Plummets 26,000 Feet in 10 Minutes: Panic Onboard as Oxygen Masks Deploy

A major aviation scare unfolded aboard Japan Airlines flight JL8696, operated by Spring Airlines Japan, when a Boeing 737 aircraft rapidly descended from 36,000 feet to 10,500 feet in under 10 minutes. The mid-air emergency occurred during a flight from Shanghai Pudong (China) to Tokyo (Japan) on Monday evening, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency with Air Traffic Control (ATC).
🛬 Emergency Landing in Osaka After Sudden Altitude Loss
The sudden descent was triggered by a pressurization system failure, leading to the deployment of oxygen masks. Panic swept through the cabin, with passengers recounting how a stewardess cried and shouted at them to immediately put on their oxygen masks. One frightened passenger even wrote their will mid-air, fearing the worst.
The aircraft, carrying 191 passengers and crew, was diverted to Kansai International Airport in Osaka, where it made an emergency landing at 8:50 PM (local time).

✈️ Boeing Under Scrutiny Again
This scare comes just days after two incidents involving Air India Boeing aircraft, one of which resulted in a fatal crash of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, while the other triggered a stall warning and emergency descent on a Boeing 777 shortly after takeoff.
These incidents have put renewed pressure on Boeing’s safety protocols and aircraft reliability.
